I need help with a rhetorical methods paper.
Content of the paper
This is a review of the literature that explains the theory or method of rhetorical criticism
that will provide the theoretical orientation of your analysis.
1. The review of the literature should provide you with the vocabulary, concepts, and
theoretical framework that you will apply to your text in the final paper.
2. The review of the rhetorical literature does not need to proceed chronologically, as in
the social scientific model. Instead, it should proceed from concept to concept or
argument to argument.
3. The review need not be exhaustive; rather, it should be inclusive. It should
demonstrate your familiarity with the major theorists and critics associated with your
perspective and your understanding of the concepts upon which you will base your
analysis.
4. You may find that your review of the literature will combine ideas from different
perspectives. Your responsibility as a critic is to make arguments that justify the
connections among these concepts.Research requirements:
Students should consult at least six theoretical sources to write this section.
How to find outside sources on rhetorical criticism methods and theories:
1. Footnotes or bibliographical information in your readings for class. Every article we
have read has extensive references and I’ve tried to preserve the bibliographical
information in the packet readings as much as possible.
2. To find research in the communication field, go to the Alkek Library website. Click
on “Databases” and then click on “Communication” (under the listing “Databases by
subject”). The best database listed is “Communication & Mass Media Complete.”
Once in that database, you can search by author, topic, or title for literature that
relates to your paper.
3. Index to Journals in Communication Studies, edited by Ronald J. Matlon and Sylvia
Ortiz. This is located behind the reference desk (ask the person at the reference desk
to get it for you); it is an index to the major journals in the field of communication
studies. You can look up subjects, or authors (“contributors”) in this Index.
The journals listed in the index are in the library stacks. To find their location,
type in the name of a journal as a title in the Online Catalog system.

The topic I have selected is President Obama’s Victory Speech on Nov. 4, 2008. I want to incorporate “fantasy theme” as my method of choice. Can you help me with this?
